Washeesh

Excerpt from a novel in progress. Washweesh (Arabic for "To Whisper") is about Yasmeen, a young adult who is brought back to her family's home country to spend a summer "getting better." Here she meets Alissar, a gender non-conforming girl whom Yasmeen finds comfort with. Together they explore who they are and navigate a culture that has strict ideas on what women can do and should be.
